What do you mean by ‘people who make a difference’?
What do you do exactly?
- I help people to get a website up and running.
- I help people to improve the website that they already have.
- I help people who have a website which no longer suits or serves them to create one that does.
I consider what you want to achieve and think about what you offer from the point of view of a customer or client.
- I work with people to identify goals (theirs and their customers’);
- I write text (and review and edit it);
- I do graphic design and presentation.
- I also amend templates (but not excessively).
What I do with you specifically will depend on which stage you are at with your business.
For instance, if you are just starting out I might simply put up a very simple 3-5 page website with a standard template and no modification.
However, if you’ve been running your business for 10 years and you still have the first website you published we might work together on discovering what suits you and perhaps customise a template to suit.
A detailed description of each of my skills is available in services and you can see some work examples here.
How much does it cost?
It depends. Everyone’s project and needs are different; I will always assess your needs and design a project which fits them and your budget.
Costs vary from the very basic simple review or edits (which may cost under £300) to a middle of the road 5 page website with minimal amendment (which may come somewhere near £600) to a very involved partnership project (which may cost over £1000). And then there are very large scale complex projects which can cost many thousands.
How long does it take?
It depends on how much work needs to be done by both of us. There are some things that can be done very quickly and some benefit from an investment of time. In some circumstances a simple site can be done in a week.
As with the cost I’d make an assessment of what you need and phase the project appropriately.
What do I have to do?
The most important thing is to set aside time.
You will have to write content. You are the expert in your field. I can advise on the best style and format. I can’t tell people what you do but I can help you do it.
You’ve used some terms that I am not familiar with – templates…modifying… What do you mean?
I like to make things simple. In the early days of the internet web designers made each website from scratch. It took a lot of work and a chunk of time (more or less depending on the website’s size and complexity and the designer’s experience).
Producing a website in this way is still time consuming and it isn’t necessary. There are now many web designs which have already been done by designers and developers which can be picked up and used for free. These basic site templates are very useful in reducing the time it takes to put up a basic website.
A template can be used exactly as it comes or it can be modified – a little, or more than a little, but basically a lot of the work is already done.
When I modify a template to make it suit a particular person I call it customising.
What do you mean by ‘people who make a difference’?
People who are doing work which they are passionate about which makes a positive difference in the world. I am inspired by this quote:
Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive. (Dr Howard Thurman)
I like to work with people who are doing what they love.
